6 Cheap Ways To Support Your College Basketball Team

Written by Jackson Wise | Mar 11, 2016 2:32:15 PM

Your favorite college basketball team is in the journey to the tourney, and you couldn’t be more excited. There’s just one problem — making a trip to see the game in person isn’t in your budget. Still, you want to show your support for your team.

Here are some cheap ways you can show your team some love, without breaking the bank this March:

1. Buy discount team apparel

Sure, anything with a “2016” on it is going to be pricey, but some searching online should help you find discount team apparel from years past. Check out auction sites like eBay or online discounters like FanaticsOutlet.com, or drop into the on-campus store and ask if they have any leftovers from last year. You don’t have to have this year’s togs to show your spirit; last year’s team apparel has the same colors.

2. Say it with cupcakes

You can spread your team spirit cheaply, and deliciously, by whipping up a batch of cupcakes in your team’s colors. Just frost the cupcakes in the appropriate colors (check out these icing formulas!) and pass them out in the dorm, in the office break room, in the kids’ morning carpool line. There’s no yummier way to say “Go, team!”

3. Decorate where you live

Hang a team jersey or pennant from your mailbox, on the front door of your house or apartment, or on your dorm room door. Everyone who passes by will know a true fan lives there.

4. Say it with your wheels

Chances are you spend a lot of time in your vehicle. Why not trick it out with team accessories? License plate frames, seat covers, air fresheners, bumper stickers — there are so many cheap ways to declare your team spirit while you’re tooling around town.

5. Put your spirit where your mouth is

Face paint is a time-honored way to declare your team spirit right out there where no one can miss it. Just remember to paint for appropriate occasions — “yes” to face paint when you’re attending a game or watching it on TV. A big “no” on wearing it to the office, no matter how cool your boss is.

6. Make “team uniforms”

If all else fails, you can make your own version of your team’s uniforms by simply wearing shorts, a T-shirt and socks in your team’s colors. If you’re really creative, you can add the number of your favorite player to your shirt.

Celebrating your team spirit doesn’t have to cost a bundle. You can support your team on the cheap with some creativity and smart shopping.
